Terms of Service

Introduction

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the mobile app Weird ("the App"). The App is developed and run by the operator of Weird (lukiita) ("we", "us"), an individual developer.

By downloading or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please stop using the App and delete it.

These Terms take effect on September 17, 2026. For how we handle personal data, see our Privacy Policy.

About the App

Weird lets you record strange experiences — ghosts, UFOs, urban legends and the like — on a map, together with the location where they happened, and share them with other people.

Everything you read in the App was written by its users. We make no claim that any of it is true. The App exists for entertainment and for keeping a record; it does not prove or endorse the existence of any paranormal phenomenon.

This version of the App lets you:

Who may use the App

Accounts and signing in

Deleting your account

You can delete your account from inside the App. Tap the icon at the top right of the map to open your profile, then choose Settings → Delete account. Once you confirm, your posts, photos, profile and follow relationships are deleted, and this cannot be undone. For the steps and for exactly what is removed, see Deleting Your Account.

Records we keep for safety reasons — such as reports other people have filed — may remain.

If you subscribe to Weird+, cancel the subscription in the App Store before you delete your account. Deleting your account does not cancel the subscription, and Apple will keep charging you. You can cancel in Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions, or at apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions.

Posts and what becomes public

When you post, the exact location of the experience is published along with it. Your post appears as a pin on the map and can be seen by anyone using the App, including people who are not signed in.

PublicPost title, experience text, your thoughts on the cause, photos, tag, weather, date and time of the experience
The location of the experience (exact latitude and longitude)
Your profile (display name, user ID, bio, web link, avatar, background image)
Follow relationships
Hidden on an anonymous postThe author's display name, user ID, avatar and account identifiers
(anonymous posts are also left out of the post list other people see on your profile)
Not publicDrafts, your block list, your email address

Posting anonymously hides information about the author only. The location, photos, text and date are published exactly as they are for any other post. There is no option to blur, round or shift the location.

For this reason, do not post from your home, workplace, school, or anywhere else you would not want others to find you. Do not post someone else's home, or a place that would reveal where a particular person can be found.

Photos are stored where anyone with the link can view them. Converting the image on upload removes Exif data such as the time and GPS coordinates of the shot, but whatever is visible in the photo itself — a nameplate, a license plate, a person's face — is published as it is.

Your rights in what you post

You keep the rights to everything you post. We do not take ownership of your content.

You do grant us permission — free of charge, worldwide and non-exclusive — to do the following, to the extent needed to run the App:

If a post is deleted, this permission ends with it, except for copies and backups that were already distributed and that remain for technical reasons.

Before you post, make sure you hold the rights to what you are posting: do not use someone else's photos, writing or artwork without permission, and get the consent of people who appear in your photos.

Taking a post down

What you may not do

When using the App, you must not:

How we handle objectionable content

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and for abusive users. We remove posts that violate these Terms and eject the people who posted them from the App. You can protect yourself in the following ways:

We review every report within 24 hours of receiving it and remove any post we find to be in breach of these Terms. We also delete the account of the person who posted it, ending their access to the App. Explaining our decision in detail, or finishing a case that requires looking into who holds which rights, can take longer than that. Where someone's privacy is involved, we may not be able to share the details of what we did.

When you post, we run an automated check on the title and body against a list of prohibited words. We are not obliged to monitor every post, but we review reported content within 24 hours as described above, and we act the same way on violations we find ourselves.

If you believe your post was removed or your account suspended in error, contact us at the address below.

Disclaimers and limits on our liability

These limits do not apply where we acted intentionally or with gross negligence, or where the law does not permit liability to be excluded or limited. If consumer protection law in your country or region gives you rights that are more favorable than these Terms, that law prevails.

Changes to the App

We may add, change or withdraw features. If we discontinue the App, or make a change that significantly affects you, we will give notice in advance where we reasonably can, in the App or on this page. If the App is discontinued, cancellation and any refund of subscriptions follow Apple's policies.

Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms. When we do, we will announce the revised text and the date it takes effect, before that date arrives, in the App or on this page. If you keep using the App on or after that date, you accept the revised Terms.

Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute between you and us relating to the App or these Terms shall be submitted to the Tokyo District Court as the court of exclusive jurisdiction for the first instance. If consumer protection law where you live gives you the right to use a different court, that right is not affected.

These Terms exist in Japanese and English. If the two versions differ, the Japanese version prevails.
