Deleting Your Account

You can delete your Weird account yourself, at any time, from inside the app. Deleting it removes the account and the data attached to it — your posts, photos, profile and follow relationships. This cannot be undone.

How to delete your account in the app

Tap the icon (your avatar) at the top right of the map screen to open your profile.
Tap Settings.
Scroll to the bottom of the Settings screen and tap Delete account, shown in red.
Read the confirmation message, then confirm the deletion.
When the deletion finishes, the app returns to the opening screen (the sign-in screen).

If you use Weird as a guest (without signing in), there is no account to delete, so the Delete account item is not shown.

If the deletion fails — because of a connection problem, for example — the app tells you so. Stay signed in and try again. If it still does not work, use the email request described below.

If you subscribe to Weird+, cancel it first

Weird+ subscriptions are managed by Apple's App Store. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription, and you will keep being charged. Subscriptions cannot be canceled from inside the app. Before deleting your account, cancel it in one of these places:

On your iPhone: Settings → your name at the top → Subscriptions
Or apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions

After you cancel, the subscription runs until the end of the period you have already paid for. Deleting your account partway through that period does not refund what you have paid. Refunds are decided by Apple. The subscription terms are in the Terms of Service.

Your posts, profile and account are removed on the spot. The image files are removed in a follow-up step right afterwards. If a connection failure leaves any file behind, tell us at the address below and we will check and delete it.

What is not deleted

Reports that other people sent about you or about your posts. Someone else submitted these, and we keep them so that violations can still be handled. Such a record contains an identifier pointing to the reported post (a random string); because the post itself is deleted, it no longer corresponds to your account.
Copies other people already saved. Posts are public, so we cannot delete screenshots or copies of images that other users have already saved on their own devices.

If you use Sign in with Apple

When you delete your account, we revoke the token Apple issued for the connection and delete the copy we hold. You do not need to do anything in your Apple settings yourself.

How soon Weird disappears from the list of apps using your Apple ID is up to Apple. If it is still listed, go to Settings → your name at the top → Sign-In & Security → Sign in with Apple, select Weird, and stop using Apple ID with it.

Deletion cannot be undone

Deleted data cannot be restored. If you sign in again with the same Google or Apple account, you start over with a brand-new account; your earlier posts, follows and profile do not come back. Save anything you want to keep to your own device before you delete.

Deleting the app does not delete your account

Removing (uninstalling) the Weird app from your device leaves your account and the data on our servers untouched. To remove the account itself, use the steps above.

Requesting deletion by email

If something prevents you from deleting your account in the app, write to lukiitaengineer@gmail.com. So that we can confirm the account is yours, please write from the email address you use to sign in and include the user ID shown on your profile (the ID beginning with @). We will verify the request and delete the account within a reasonable time.

Things you can do without deleting your account

Depending on what you need, there may be a better fit than deleting everything.

You want one post taken down: this version has no button inside the app for deleting a single post. Write to us at the address above, tell us the title of the post and roughly when you posted it, and we will confirm that the post is yours and take it down. Deleting individual posts from inside the app is planned for a future release. A post taken down this way stops appearing to other users, but the record itself stays in our database, and so does the image file. Deleting your account removes your posts and their photo files together.
You do not want to see a particular person: open their profile, swipe up to expand it, and tap ⋮, then choose Block. Their posts disappear from your view, and any follow relationship between you ends in both directions. The other person is not notified. To unblock, go from your profile to Settings → Blocked users and tap Unblock. You can do this at any time.
You found a post that does not belong here: open the experience, swipe up to reveal the action row, tap ⋮ and choose Report. Pick a reason — Privacy violation or Spam — and send it. The person you report is never told who reported them. We review every report within 24 hours of receiving it, remove any post that breaks the Terms of Service, and remove the person who posted it from the app.
